While I travel the upper Midwest and the mountains of North Carolina, I am drawn into interaction with the lines and shapes of the landscape. As I become visually involved with each landscape, there is often one scene, one valley, or structure I am drawn to. These landscape experiences have become the subject matter for my porcelain discs and other stoneware functional items.
These clay canvases are very responsive to subtle alterations and to the addition of glaze colorants and other atmospheric kiln effects such as carbon trapping and fuming. All stoneware and functional objects are reduction fired in a wood/salt kiln.
