Miki Shim is a ceramic artist and educator based in Galena, Illinois. After a 25-year career in marketing and graphic design in Chicago, she transitioned to ceramics as her second professional path. Following her move to California in 2012, her work and teaching practice expanded internationally through workshops, demonstrations, and exhibitions.

Shim’s work is held in private collections across the United States, China, and South Korea. She regularly teaches workshops and presents demonstrations for ceramic artists and institutions, sharing her technical knowledge and creative process with a wide range of audiences.

In 2023, Shim began leading international ceramics tours to South Korea and China, connecting artists with historical, cultural, and contemporary ceramic traditions through studio visits and hands-on workshops. In 2024, she founded and now serves as Managing Director of International Ceramics Exchange (ICEX), an organization dedicated to fostering dialogue and collaboration among ceramic artists across cultures through exhibitions, workshops, and public programming.

In the Spring of 2025, she and her husband returned to Illinois and established a fully equipped teaching studio in Galena, Rocky Hill Arts, where they host workshops, visiting artists, and students.

Her work and educational initiatives reflect a deep commitment to building community, sharing knowledge, and expanding connections within the global ceramics field.
